Ship magnetizations modelling by the finite element method

In order to increase the stealth of ships, the magnetic anomalies they create are minimized by using deGaussing systems. To improve the deGaussing process, the French Navy has requested a numerical model of the magnetic anomalies created by ships. The authors present an overview of their work in the finite-element modeling of ships, and the original software tools they developed, used, and implemented in the Flux3D finite-element program. These tools include surface and line elements, open-boundary modeling using transformation, and the use of the reduced-scalar potential. Finally, the complete finite-element modeling of an actual ship using Flux3D is presented.<
