Privacy-preserving Multiarea Economic Optimization In Power System Using Homomorphic Encryption

With the continuous popularization and development of the power network, more and more power plants are interconnected, allowing electricity to flow flexibly between multiple areas, thereby improving the overall flexibility of the power grid. However, when some lines are damaged due to force majeure such as abnormal weather or natural disasters, regional islanding may occur. In this situation, joint economic dispatch across multiple areas is often required to minimize economic losses as much as possible. Faced with practical operations, area managers often refuse to collaborate with other areas for collaborative optimization due to potential security and economic issues caused by data exposure. In this paper, a multiarea economic dispatch model for power systems considering privacy protection is proposed, which uses Paillier homomorphic encryption the key technology for joint computing while protecting the data privacy of participants. Considering the presence of a third-party central server in the architecture of this model, some improvements are made to the original Paillier homomorphic encryption algorithm to achieve a more comprehensive privacy protection mechanism. The case study is implemented on an IEEE 30 node transmission network system to verify the security of the proposed method.
