Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness Analysis based on Discrete Wavelet Transform of EMG Signals on Leg Workout

Physical activity refers to any bodily movement that necessitates the use of energy by the muscles. Engaging in regular physical activity enhances overall well-being and yields substantial health advantages. Subsequently, delayed muscle soreness (DOMS) may result from excessive fatigue resulting from excessive physical activity or exercise. DOMS is the result of transient muscular injury and inflammation, often induced by eccentric exercise. Multiple studies have been conducted to identify DOMS, but they have relied solely on subjective measures such as questionnaires. Therefore, there is a necessity for early assessment of DOMS prevention. To resolve this issue, researchers proposed a multiresolution analysis be integrated with an electromyography sensor to conduct a system analysis. This study employs Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) analysis, utilizing decomposition levels ranging from 1 to 5, to assess fatigue conditions. In order to evaluate tiredness levels, this study focused on four feature extractions—mean power amplitude (P), standard deviation (SD), root mean square (RMS), and average. The extraction of these features is crucial for obtaining the correlation coefficient (CC) and slope parameters used to estimate DOMS. The researchers discovered that the most optimal tilt outcomes were attained within the D2 frequency range, which spans from 125 Hz to 250 Hz.
