Design of Microstrip Chebyshev Fractal Band Pass Filter for Radar X-Band Application

In this work, a bandpass filter for the 9.3 GHz X-band manpack surveillance radar (MPSR) is designed and implemented. This bandpass filter used Rogers Duroid 5880 substrate with a thickness (h) of 1.575 mm, a loss tangent of 0.0009, and a dielectric constant (εr) of 2.2. The triangle-shaped fractal microstrip was used in this paper. To reduce the filter size, we employed the fractal approach. For simulation as well as design, we employed the Advanced Design System (ADS). The response of a Chebyshev filter is selected. A bandwidth of 197 MHz, an insertion loss (S21) of -2.33 dB, and a return loss response (S11) of -41.77 dB at 9.30 GHz are all displayed by the filter design simulation. This fractal bandpass filter has a high Q-factor of 47.11 for the realization of some response return loss of -22.77 dB at 9.30 GHz and insertion loss of -4.14 dB.
