Geometric power optimisation of a rogue-wave energy device in a (breakwater) contraction

A comprehensive mathematical model is developed for a wave energy device placed in a contraction coupled to a tubular generator with more than one induction coil. The model is used to maximize the power output from the device as a function of two contraction geometry parameters and the average water depth. It is shown that increasing the number of induction coils is highly beneficial and that moving from one to three induction coils can increase the power output from the device by an order of magnitude.
