Performance and Analysis of Multilevel Inverter in integrating Grid

As the utilisation of renewable energy sources increased, the requirement of inverters increased, In basic two-level inverter, the output waveform is produced by switching the DC input voltage between two levels positive and negative. However, this approach has constraints, including higher harmonic content and increased voltage stress on the power switches. Multilevel inverters overcome these limitations by synthesizing the output voltage waveform using multiple levels, typically achieved through the power switches combination and DC sources. The basic principle behind multilevel inverters involves the use of power semiconductor devices, such as IGBT or MOSFET, to create the desired output voltage waveform. By connecting several power devices in series or parallel, a multilevel inverter can produce a staircase-like waveform with higher voltage level as compared to two-level inverter. The application areas of multilevel inverters are diverse and expanding rapidly. Their applications are utilized in renewable energy sector, mostly in solar and wind power systems, to convert the DC power accumulated by these sources into AC power acceptable for integrating the grid. This paper focus on the performance analysis of grid synchronized inverter, main observations on variation in THD injected into the grid with change in load.
