Energy Loss Reduction by Capacitor Placement Integrated with EVCS in Distribution Systems

To address challenges arising from the rapid growth of electric vehicle (EV) adoption, incorporating capacitors with EV charging stations (EVCS) is proposed. In order to mitigate issues such as increased network losses and voltage profile degradation, EVCS is integrated with a capacitor that provides reactive power

compensation. The EVCS integrated with capacitance in the distribution system (DS) will help improve the voltage level, minimize overall system losses, and subsequently lower total energy costs. In this study, the objective function is to maximize energy cost savings. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is employed in this study to identify optimal locations for EVCS and capacitors within a DS. The IEEE-10 and IEEE-12 bus systems are tested to validate the suggested methodology.
