Potential and Charge Density at the Surface of a Field Emitter

  Density functional analysis of a hemispherically capped (5,5) carbon nanotube in zero field by ONETEP shows that both charge density and the difference between self-consistent potential and vacuum level decrease exponentially as distance from the Fermi equipotential surface increases into the barrier region.
