A Novel Pulse-Injection Electromagnetic Detection Method for Seepage Pathways in Pumped Storage Power Plants

Seepage in pumped storage power plants can cause serious structural and operational issues, requiring accurate detection methods. This paper introduces a novel pulse-injection electromagnetic detection method to identify seepage pathways. It involves injecting current pulses into the ground and measuring the primary and secondary electromagnetic field responses, improving sensitivity and accuracy over traditional techniques. First, a detailed analysis of the magnetic field composition at the measurement points is conducted. By selecting appropriate magnetic field observation periods and observation distances, the influence of power wires can be eliminated. The location of the leakage channel can then be identified through the mapping of induced voltage. Simulation and experimental results demonstrated that the method exhibits superior capability in accurately identifying seepage pathways, showing significant engineering application value.
