BER Performance Analysis of OTFS-IM Systems under Barrage Jamming

The Orthogonal Time-Frequency Space (OTFS) with Index Modulation (OTFS-IM) system conveys information using M-ary constellation symbols and active sub carrier indices. Recently, researchers have focused on this technique as an option for future wireless communication systems due to its superior performance over OTFS and previous modulations such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and OFDM with Index Modulation (OFDM-IM). This study investigates the effect of barrage jamming on the performance of an OTFS-IM system, employing maximum likelihood (ML), minimum mean square error (MMSE), and log-likelihood ratio (LLR) detectors with a 3GPP-defined tapped delay line (TDL) channel. Simulation results show that OTFS-IM outperforms OTFS and OFDM-IM in bit error rate (BER) at high signal-to-jamming ratio (SJR) levels, but experiences more impact from barrage jamming at lower SJR levels. Additionally, the ML detector is observed to be less complex than the LLR detector.
