Exploration of Multiple- Terrain Field Out of Human Sight by Rat Robot with Multi-Sensor Backpack

Bio-robots, a novel type of robots based on brain-computer interface, have demonstrated tremendous potential in carrying out rescue and search tasks in challenging terrains. However, the current lack of an effective method to explore areas out of sight using bio-robots presents a significant limitation. To address this issue, this paper proposes three methods for guiding the rat-robot out of sight by utilizing various sensors, including camera, ultra-wide band sensor, infrared thermal sensor, integrated into its backpack. Additionally, an integral trial was conducted to guide the rat-robot in exploring a multiple terrain field, where different sensors were used in different phases. These findings establish a fundamental prerequisite for the future deployment of rat-robots in real-life missions, particularly for search and rescue operations
