Optical Entropy Maximization Leads to Spatial Beam Self-Cleaning in Multimode GRIN Fibers

We present a direct experimental verification of the increase in entropy that accompanies the beam self-cleaning effect and, more generally, the process of light thermalization of a highly multimode beam, as it undergoes nonlinear propagation in telecom standard graded-index optical fibers.
