Calibration of Oscilloscope Rise Time based on Pulse Synthesis Technique

This paper presents a pulse synthesis technique developed at the Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) for the calibration of rise time of oscilloscope. The principle is based on the application of a traceable reference of continuous wave to characterize the amplitude response of the oscilloscope under test (UUT). The pulse synthesis technique is applied to the output amplitude response of the UUT to facilitate the characterization of the UUT’s rise time. Calibration result of an oscilloscope by using the proposed technique was compared with that using the reference pulse technique.
