Technology for the Capture and Storage of Carbon Emissions: a Technical, Economic and Social Suitability Analysis

This study aims to analyze the feasibility of extracting CO
2
from the atmosphere and storing it, considering technical, economic, and societal aspects. An excess of CO
2
in the atmosphere is considered the major cause of global warming. It is difficult to control CO
2
emissions for economic and political reasons. This suggests that addressing technical, social, and economic barriers to the storage of CO
2
may be beneficial. Therefore, this study can assist in gaining a deeper comprehension of these difficulties and formulating strategies to overcome them. The search strategy included tunneling to identify issues with CO
2
capture and storage. The primary feasibility issues in addressing the issue were confirmed as technical, economic and societal. Recent research was explored to identify the major issues surrounding each of these feasibility areas with a focus on the most prominent and promising approaches to addressing them. This study argues that the capture and storage of CO
2
is not economically feasible. This will change as increased technical feasibility through technical innovation will increase economic feasibility. Societal acceptance will can then be improved by addressing factors such as knowledge of the technology, its uses, benefits and limitations.
