Improvement of Load Frequency Control of Multi-Sources Power System Based on PID Controller Using Particle Swarm Optimization with Renewable Energy Sources

Load Frequency Control (LFC) is an essential part of the power system network because it guarantees the frequency constraints at normal conditions after a load perturbation. The main factors of stability that should be taken into account in the power system networks are the frequency deviations of each area and the amount of power flow through the tie-line interconnected power system. These indicators must be kept at the desired levels based on the application of controllers. This article designs load frequency control based on a simple, robust, and powerful algorithm to modify the frequency limits and improve the power delivery of multi-source power system networks by making optimization tuning for the parameters of the PID controller using the particle swarm optimization technique. This algorithm is more reliable in achieving the lowest objective function, where the Integral Time Multiplied Absolute Error (ITAE) is used as the objective function in this paper, hence improving the response of the system (steady-state frequency deviation, rise time, peak time, settling time, and peak amplitude).
