on various physical properties was studied. The stress dependence of the hysteresis, of the electrical resistivity, the Mössbauer hyperfine field and the neutron depolarisation was measured on ribbons with λ
s
> 0 and λ
s
< 0. The change of the Young's modulus with the external stress and the applied field also sensitively reflects the sign of λ
s
as demonstrated on Fe
85
B
15
.
