Quantifying the Self-healing Capability of Orbital Angular Momentum Carrying Waves

Vortex electromagnetic waves carry orbital angular momentum (OAM), uniquely possessing self-healing after disturbance. This work numerically simulates the self-healing of OAM-carrying waves generated by a concentric uniform circular array (UCA), passing through an obstacle. The simulation demonstrates robust self-healing capability, with waves recovering their original intensity post-obstacle. Weaker self-healing occurs closer to the obstacle, with the vortex electromagnetic wave recovering its original intensity after obstacle passage, albeit with poorer recovery nearer the obstacle. Self-healing capacity increases with distance post-obstacle and larger obstacle dimensions cause more energy loss and slower recovery. The robustness and adaptability of OAM-carrying waves render them highly desirable for practical applications.
