Human Factors in Asset Integrity: Analyzing the Role of Human Error in Oil and Gas Incidents

The integrity of asset and its reliability represents the important elements of safety management in the oil and gas exploration. For years, incidents in the oil and gas industry have resulted in the economic losses, environmental degradation, and societal impact due to the inadequate process safety management. Also, it has been established that human error contributes a significant percentage to most of the incidents in the industry. Based on this, the study examined the various accident occurrence in the industry and the impact of human error as well as the measures for incidents prevention and control in such industry. Findings revealed that the number of accident occurrence in the industry depends on the asset reliability which indirectly link to the human technical expertise. Hence, the need for special and consistent training as well as evaluation of the past history of accidents to improve on the measures for prevention and control.
