Overview of Corrosion Types and Effects of Grain Size Variation on Corrosion Resistance of Steel

A definitive approach of how variation in grain size affects corrosion resistance of steel has not been developed. Thus, the study focused on a comprehensive review of different types of corrosion as well as understanding the variation in grain sizes as its relationship with corrosion resistance. The study revealed that there exists a strong relationship between the corrosion resistance and grain sizes of steel, and this culminate into understanding the grain boundary parameters that existed in a steel material. Thus, the study provided a fundamental relationship necessary for material reliability design.
