On the Influence of Lightning Channel Inclination to the Current in Various Parts of the Steel Reinforced Building for a Direct Lightning Strike

This paper explores the impact of lightning channel inclination on the magnitude and characteristics of the current flowing through the base of steel-reinforced concrete columns when a lightning strike occurs on a building. The three various building patterns are examined for the study. The lightning channel length examined for the study is 1 km. The commonly used current source model excites the channel at the base. Electromagnetic model is employed. For the computation Electromagnetic code (NEC-2) is used. The simulations are accomplished for various channel inclinations. The source current is impulse in nature which is a double exponential wave. The impulse wave having various rise times are examined as the source current. The results show that the inclined lightning channel has effect on the magnitude of the current flowing at the base of the columns of the building. However, on the nature of the current there is no much influence by the channel inclination.
