Air Disinfection by Grating-like DBD Plasma

Atmospheric pressure non-thermal plasma is an emerging technique for efficient and energy-saving air disinfection. In this work, we report our recent research progress regarding air disinfection by using a grating-like dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) array to achieve high-flowrate in-duct bioaerosol inactivation. The impact of airflow humidity, temperature, and power supply (AC and nanosecond-pulsed) was investigated. A coupled kinetic model was established to obtain the spatiotemporal evolution behaviors of long-lived and short-lived reactive species. A multi-factor germicidal kinetic model was proposed to predict the surviving behaviors of the bioaerosols. Finally, the biological effects of the plasma species on the bacterial aerosols were uncovered by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), optical photothermal infrared spectroscopy, etc. This work can provide scientific and engineering hints for DBDplasma-relevant biological and environmental applications.
