Increased Power Release Strategy of Over-speed Wind Turbine For Frequency Regulation

Wind turbines can actively participate in system frequency control through over-speed load shedding operation. In the traditional control strategy, wind turbines participate in the frequency response and run in the maximum power output state. However, at this time, wind turbines still have large rotor kinetic energy, and there is the possibility of further deceleration to provide more power increment. For this reason, a novel increased power release strategy of over-speed wind turbine for frequency regulation is proposed. The strategy takes full account of the relationship between rotational kinetic energy and mechanical power of wind turbines. On the premise of properly reducing some mechanical power, the potential of rotor kinetic energy utilization is explored, and the frequency-modulated power increment of wind turbines is raised as a whole. The presented strategy is verified in simulation part and the results show that the proposed control strategy can effectively delay the frequency descent time, reduce the maximum frequency offset, and do not cause the second drop of the system frequency.
