Design of a Fano Resonance Based Microring Modulator Using Phase Transition of Vanadium Oxide

We present the design of a silicon microring modulator that utilizes Fano resonance for modulation of optical signal. The modulation is achieved by using the phase transition of a vanadium oxide (VO
2
) nano pillar. It offers a combination of large extinction ratio, low insertion loss and potentially high speed and low power consumption.
