Dual Circularly Polarized Reflectarray with Independent Manipulation of Radiating Beams

This paper introduces a dual circularly-polarized reflectarray, employing a three-dimensional frequency-selective structure, designed to address the challenge of multiple complicated circularly polarized antennas in high-throughput satellites. This reflectarray operating at 10 GHz comprises individual 961 unit cells along with a circularly polarized feed antenna. Each unit cell consists of two groups of printed metal strips capable of independently reflecting left-handed and right-handed circularly polarized waves. By moving the position of each group of printed metal strips, various phase aperture distributions are attainable, allowing for exact manipulation of the radiation beam directions for both left-handed and right-handed circularly polarized waves. Consequently, this dual-circularly polarized reflectarray has the potential to significantly decrease the number of antennas in high-throughput satellites, offering promising prospects in satellite communication applications.
