A Novel Design of an Aperiodic Array with Grating Lobe Suppression Based on the Einstein Tile

A novel approach to antenna array layout is introduced in this paper, which is based on the innovative "Einstein" tile, also recognized as an aperiodic monotile. Due to the inherent asymmetry exhibited by the antenna subarrays constructed from the "Einstein" tile, we can achieve effective lobe suppression in sparse phased arrays. One of the most remarkable benefits of this antenna array layout is that it requires only a single aperiodic monotile to create a fully tiled plane without any overlap or gaps, ensuring an aperture efficiency of 100%. Additionally, during the expansion of planar arrays, the need for complex optimization algorithms is eliminated, greatly reducing the costs associated with optimization, design, manufacturing, and integration for large-scale antenna arrays. For limited field of view radars, the proposed array layout approach offers significant attractive. The paper provides a detailed examination of the antenna array layout and lobe suppression level, validating the feasibility of this method through simulation calculations.
