Influence of Antenna Disturbing System on Deterministic Propagation Simulation in Typical Scenarios

Propagation prediction using high-performance ray-tracing models is highly dependent on accurate antenna patterns. This paper investigates the influence of antenna radiation patterns on ray-based channel prediction tools, particularly under typical urban furniture interference. A radiation-based deterministic ray tracing model is employed to predict radio wave propagation in standard campus environments. Given that the mask model interference scene is most affected during height variation, a typical base station scenario is examined: an antenna positioned near a wall and mounted on a roof. Initially, an omnidirectional antenna operating at 1.91 GHz is simulated in FEKO, providing antenna patterns with and without wall interference. The impact of antenna characteristics on the received power is evaluated and compared with results using isolated antenna radiation patterns, free from interference. The findings indicate that antenna patterns significantly influence propagation predictions in various scenarios, largely dependent on the nature of the interfering objects and the propagation environment. Consequently, for more accurate predictions of received power, it is crucial to consider the influence of nearby interference factors. A correct antenna correction model is a vital preprocessing technique, enhancing the accuracy of the model and supporting more extensive regional simulations.
