Geospatial Insights in Spectrum Management: An Adaptive Data-Driven Licensing Approach

The continued roll-out of 5G and the impending arrival of 6G are driving innovation towards more effective spectrum sharing. In turn, spectrum regulators play a critical role in ensuring the rapid adoption of sharing innovations through the formulation of relevant licensing policies. This paper explores how geospatial analysis and data-driven techniques can enhance frequency assignment and licensing approaches. Case studies are presented highlighting the methodology to adapt licence conditions based on diverse auxiliary datasets. The paper contends that adapting licensing conditions to meet the unique requirements of end-users across different regions serves to improve the intensity of spectrum sharing and support the growing wireless economy.
