The Perspectives of Metal Nanopowders Application for Luminescent Material Production

Luminescent materials are widely used in the production of light emitting diodes, fluorescent lamps and other light-emitting devices. In addition, luminescent materials are used as additives in paints and polymers. In this work, the prospects for using metal nanopowders for the synthesis of inorganic luminescent materials by high-temperature solidphase synthesis are investigated. The in situ study has been carried out using X-ray diffraction analysis. The advantage of using metal nanopowders compared to using only metal oxides is the relatively high specific heat release during material synthesis by sintering. This additional heat release helps to increase the yield of products of luminophor synthesis reaction, which increases the efficiency of solid-phase synthesis. Using nanopowders of aluminum, tungsten and molybdenum as an example, it was experimentally demonstrated that using metal nanopowders it is possible to synthesize both luminophors with a matrix (based on strontium aluminate) activated by the addition of rare earth metal ions, and luminophors with self-activation (tungstates and molybdates).
