Study on Gamma Spectrometer Design of Wide Dose Rate Range

Most of spectrometers can only measure energy spectrum of low dose rate radiation because of their large detector volume and low speed of multi-channel analyzer. However, if nuclear accident occurs, the dose rate range will be very wide. Dose rate in nuclear contaminated zone is high, but it is low in non-contamination area. Measurement of different dose rate radiation needs different dose rate spectrometer. Current spectrometer cannot meet the need of nuclear emergency monitoring and rescue. If there are no high dose rate range spectrometers, the nuclear accident would be difficult to be assessed accurately. In this paper, a wide dose rate range gamma spectrometer based on detectors delay and high speed digital multi-channel analyzer is put forward. In this spectrometer design, some effective measures to widen the dose rate range of the spectrometer are taken. Analysis and design show that the design is feasible, and the dose rate range of the spectrometer can be heighten much more, and spectrum of most of wide dose rate range radiation can be detected with this spectrometer.
