A D-Band Wideband Magnetoelectric Dipole Antenna Array Based on Micro-Metal Additive Manufacturing

A wideband magnetoelectric (ME) dipole antenna fed by a rectangular micro-coaxial line (RMCL) is proposed based on micro-metal additive manufacturing (M-MAM) technology. A pair of planar patches and vertical walls are designed to realize electric dipole and magnetic dipole. A direct-feeding structure based on RMCL is developed to excite the ME dipole antenna. Also, a slotted cavity around the ME dipole antenna is used to enhance antenna gain and impedance bandwidth (IMBW), simultaneously. high-gain ME dipole antenna array is designed based on the proposed antenna using M-MAM technology. Duo to the use of RMCL, the bandwidth of feed network of the array can cover the whole D-band. The ME dipole antenna array based on M-MAM is fabricated and measured. A wide IMBW of 110–170 GHz and a boresight gain varying from 21.1 to 25.6 dBi are obtained in the measurements, which show excellent agreement with simulation results.
