Distributed Observer-Based Failure Compensation Load Frequency Control of Multi-Area Power Systems

This paper investigates the failure compensation load frequency control of multi-area power systems in the circumstance of actuator faults. Firstly, the distributed observer is proposed. It can estimate the actuator fault signals of the multi-area power systems in a distributed manner. And then the failure compensation load frequency control is designed based on the cyclic-small-gain method and the information of fault estimation signals, which is obtained from the observer. As a result, the controller can not only eliminate the influence of actuator faults, but also improve the robustness of the interconnections and load frequency disturbances, as well as ensure the stability of the systems further. In addition, an illustrative example is given to verify the proposed method.
