Reflecting/Absorbing Reconfigurable Textile Metasurface Designs

Two reconfigurable textile metasurfaces that function as both a reflector and an absorber of electromagnetic waves are presented in this paper. For the first single-band design, a carbon-coated resistive net is incorporated into the conventional square patch EBG (electromagnetic bandgap) structure, enabling to switch of reflection/absorption by uncovering/covering this added resistive net at 2.4 GHz. For the second wideband design, its dual-band reflection is based on a dual band square patch structure. The dual band is fused to achieve a wideband absorption from 2.2 to 7.28 GHz by adding a lossy EBG layer. Both designs achieve a maximum absorption rate of more than 99% as an absorber, and the amplitude of S11 is greater than -3 dB in the in-phase reflection band as a reflector.
