Performance Characterization of a Circular Microstrip Patch Antenna Array with Dual Radiating Slots for Wearable Applications

A dual element circular microstrip patch antenna array is designed for wearable applications. The utilization of a polyimide substrate is explored, offering flexibility and lightweight properties ideal for conformal integration with wearable devices. The proposed antenna array aims to address the challenges posed by the dynamic and compact nature of wearable systems while ensuring efficient wireless communication in 5.5 GHz. The design process involves the selection of the polyimide substrate material and the systematic development of circular antenna elements with slot structures to achieve desired radiation characteristics. The dual slotted circular antenna array is optimized to enhance directivity and minimize mutual coupling between elements, ensuring a stable and efficient WLAN communication link for wearable devices. The antenna provides low return loss of -10.62 dB, good gain of 7.29 dB and directivity of 7.49 dB, making it suitable for wearable WLAN applications.
