Dielectric Resonator Based Wideband Circularly Polarized Antenna for Wireless Communication Applications

Conventional antennas were bulky in nature, experienced metallization losses had limited bandwidth, and were vulnerable to multipath fading and interference. Dielectric Resonators (DR) has a significant deal of potential for radiating electromagnetic waves. Dielectric Resonators lessen the antenna's total metallization, which lowers metallization losses. In this literature, a wideband circularly polarized antenna with a miniaturized Dielectric Resonator is shown. The antenna comprises a substrate, a ground plane, a patch, and a Dielectric Resonator that have been placed on the patch. A meandered shaped patch, rotated by 45° with respect to the +Z-axis is designed to implement the phase quadrature required for circular polarization, which leads to circular polarization characteristics. Implementation of a Dielectric Resonator also helps in bandwidth enhancement. A simple partial ground is used to reduce the back propagation of waves. The designed antenna achieves a wide return loss bandwidth of 6 to 12.4 GHz (69.56%) as well as circular polarization characteristics, in the frequency range of 7 to 12 GHz (52.63%). Hence this antenna can be used for a variety of modern wireless communication systems.
