A New Adaptive Proportional Resonant Control Strategy for Single-Phase SVG in Frequency Varying Applications

With the use of ever more sophisticated single-phase power electronics, the problem of reactive power pollution looks increasingly serious. Conventional static var generators (SVG) are mainly used to compensate reactive power in the operating range of fundamental frequencies around 50 Hz to improve power quality. In this paper, in order to improve the dynamic reactive power compensation capability of single-phase SVGs under variable frequency conditions, an adaptive proportional resonant (PR) control strategy is proposed to reduce the rated capacity of the power inverter and improve the quality of power transmission. Besides, simulation results verify the feasibility of the single-phase SVG circuit configuration, compensation principle, and the proposed control strategy in realizing the reactive power compensation under inverter conditions. Compared with the conventional PR control, the proposed one can ensure better compensation performance in a relatively wider frequency range.
