Capacity Value Assessment of PV Power Plants Based on ELCC Index

The capacity value of photovoltaic (PV) power generation measures its contribution to the capacity adequacy of the power system. This paper employs the credible capacity of PV power generation to express its capacity value. Firstly, a probability-based model for photovoltaic power plants is proposed to account for weather uncertainty. Secondly, we evaluate the power correlation between PV power plants using the Pearson's correlation coefficient and propose a copula function-based power model for PV power plant groups. This model considers the time-variation of radiation and the power correlation. Finally, we utilize the effective load carrying capability (ELCC) index to assess the capacity value of PV power generation. The results demonstrate that this method evaluates the capacity value in a more practical way than traditional methods.
