Design of Hardware/Software Cooperative System Based on SM2/3/4 Hybrid Encryption Algorithm

Traditional single-cipher algorithms cannot meet the requirements in terms of security and operation speed. To address the encryption needs in the era of big data, a hardware-software codesign scheme for a high-speed hybrid encryption system based on the Chinese National Encryption Algorithm SM2, SM3, and SM4 is proposed. The underlying hardware structures of the SM3 and SM4 algorithms are optimized. Experimental results show that each algorithm circuit implemented in the system has relatively high performance. The throughput of the SM3 algorithm reaches 36.91 Gbps, and the throughput of the SM4 algorithm reaches 38.05 Gbps, the throughput of the hybrid encryption system is 33.05 Gbps. The hybrid encryption algorithm not only does not require an additional secure channel but also has a similar throughput to the SM4 algorithm, demonstrating the superiority of the proposed hybrid encryption system.
