Class-E type Inverter-based Wireless Power Transfer System for different numbers of coils - A Comparative analysis and validation using Typhoon HIL

Wireless power transfer (WPT) is becoming more popular as electric vehicles and consumer electronics advance. Magnetic resonant coupling(MRC) has recently been regarded as the most efficacious WPT method, and the two-coil design is most extensively used. However, when implementing multiple coils, there is a significant difference in the power available at the output side. This article gives a comparison of power supplied at the load side for a class-E inverter-based two, three and four-coil WPT systems with detailed mathematical analysis. The results showed the superiority of the foul coil system for transferring power to the load in kW range which is further validated with a Real-time Emulator Typhoon HIL 402.
