New Algorithm to Support Adaptive Control of DFIG Currents and Fault Diagnosis of Speed Sensor

This paper presents a novel method to facilitate the development of adaptive control strategies for currents in a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG). The proposed method can be employed in parallel with classical temporal methods to derive adaptive strategies. It involves developing a temporal observer that enables the identification of all electrical parameters of the generator, as well as the estimation of the rotational speed. This approach can be utilized to support a diagnostic algorithm for detecting faults in the DFIG speed sensor or to achieve sensorless operation. Furthermore, it circumvents the disadvantages associated with classical methods for estimating rotor speed. The effectiveness of the developed method is validated through simulations conducted on a 1.5 MW rated DFIG.
