Analysis of the Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection of Blockchain-Empowered Internet of Energy (IoE)

Blockchain (BC) is a decentralized and unalterable form of distributed ledger that possesses the ability to store data autonomously, without the need for intermediaries. The adoption of BC has brought forward novel strategies for tackling cybersecurity and privacy issues within the Internet of Energy (IoE) framework. This study will analyze the possibilities of integrating blockchain technology into the IoE after conducting a comprehensive review of its architecture, essential components, and applications. Next, we will thoroughly analyze the utilization of BC in safeguarding the cybersecurity and privacy of the IoE by examining state-of-the-art papers. By synthesizing previous research and real integrations, this study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the various ways in which BC increases cybersecurity in the IoE. BC’s decentralized design plays a crucial role in enhancing the resilience of the energy grid against cyber threats by facilitating rigorous identity verification, transparent data aggregation, and safe energy transactions. Also, the utilization of cryptographic algorithms and consensus processes embedded into BC provides complex solutions for safeguarding data and managing identities, thereby granting stakeholders enhanced authority over their personal information. This analysis underscores the potential of BC to enhance resilience in the IoE, hence facilitating the development of a more secure and reliable energy infrastructure.
