The Effect of Gyroscopic Coupling near the Supports of a Rotor System with Anisotropic Stiffness

This work considers the case of the presence of sources of significant gyroscopic coupling near the supports of a rotor system when the supports have anisotropic properties. The existence of anisotropy in the supports is usually indicated as a stabilizing factor for a rotor system, and the influence of gyroscopic coupling (in combination with anisotropy) is not discussed in detail. The aim of this study is to provide a simulation investigation of the effect of the presence of gyroscopic coupling near the supports on the stability of the system for supercritical rotational speeds. The article analyzes a flexible rotor with discs, and the rotor is supported on both sides by supports with anisotropic stiffness. The presence of a strong gyroscopic coupling in the vicinity of such supports leads to a significant change in the dynamic properties in comparison to those of a system without this coupling.
