Transformative Learning: Nurturing Novices to Experts through 3D Simulation and Virtual Reality in Education

Within the appearance of Industry 4.0 era, the industrial concepts have been changed a lot. Digital twin concept which is based on 3D simulation and virtual reality start to be implemented in every sector, especially in the automotive sector, where several scenarios and cases can be executed. This will increase the chance of errors and decrease the cycle time of delivering the product to the customer. Therefore, by using these solutions “3D simulation and virtual reality softwares”, the engineers will be much closer to the real process manufacturing, and they can predict more easily the gap and the mistakes in the production line. This paper presents the impact of 3D simulation and virtual reality on the industrial sector and highlights the importance of including these solutions in the education part, from early age, where the student can be an expert in designing and programming several scenarios using professional softwares. Two softwares are presented Visual Components for designing 3D automated processes, and SimLab for designing and visualizing a virtual environment through VR headset. The study will be described through practical tutorials, dedicated for education purposes.
