Identity-Based Secure Key-Deduplication Broadcast Encryption

The amount of data being stored in the cloud is increasing dramatically, making deduplication-which lowers storage costs by allowing us to store multiple copies of identical data-unprecedently crucial. Before being outsourced, data are often encrypted to ensure confidentiality. Data deduplication is hampered by traditional encryption since it will always produce several distinct ciphertexts from the same plaintext using different users' secret keys. Since convergent encryption automatically converts identical plaintexts into identical ciphertexts, it makes deduplication possible. Managing a massive number of convergent keys in an efficient and dependable manner is one attendant issue. A number of deduplication strategies have been put out to address the issue of convergent key management. However, they have to either deploy key management servers or force data owners to communicate with one another. In this work, we develop an independent key management server-less client-side deduplication protocol named KeyD using the identity-based broadcast encryption (IBBE) technique. The only time users communicate with the cloud service provider (CSP) is when they are uploading and downloading data. Security research shows that KeyD simultaneously preserves ownership privacy and convergent key security, as well as data confidentiality. An extensive and comprehensive performance comparison demonstrates that our system achieves a better trade-off between computation overhead, communication costs, and storage costs.
