New Compensation Strategy of the Active Power Filter Integrating the Dynamic Optimization Compensation of Odd-Order Harmonics and the Algorithm of Operating Inverter Output Current within the Limit Range for the Longest Time

This paper proposes a new harmonic current compensation strategy for the active power filter, allowing the inverter output current to continuously operate within the limit of the safe range. By analyzing the load current, the reactive power current and the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th harmonic current components are dissociated. The algorithm of the new compensation strategy will optimize the compensation ratio of the reactive power current and the 3rd to 11th harmonic currents according to the maximum output peak current of the inverter. In addition, other harmonic components greater than the 13th are fully compensated. The algorithm will automatically adjust the inverter output current to the maximum output safe limit. Finally, simulated and experimental results are used to verify the algorithm and discussion.
