Reducing FWM Efficiency in DWDM Networks by Employing OFDM and Alternate Channel Delay

This paper proposes a new method for the suppression of Four Wave Mixing (FWM) in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks by using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique with alternate channel delay. OFDM is used here because of its high spectral efficiency and flexibility. Here the alternate channels are delayed by a factor that is equal to the inverse of the bit rate. This system is further compared to the system using OFDM without alternate channel delay. The performances of both systems are analyzed using FWM efficiency, Optical Signal to Noise Ratio (OSNR) and Received power for two different fiber transmission distances. Comparative analysis of the proposed method is also done with other FWM reduction methods. Results show maximum reduction in FWM efficiency for the proposed method.
