Enhanced Combined Weighted Method for TDOA-Based Localization

Recently, a novel combined weighted (COM-W) method has been proposed for TDOA target localization. This technique features low computational cost, small number of required sensors, and it accounts for geometric dilution of precision (GDOP) in the estimation calculation. Despite these benefits, the method's accuracy was observed to reduce in specific scenarios. In this paper the cause of this problem is identified and a solution is proposed. The enhanced method (ECOM-W) exhibits significantly better performance than the original COM-W, albeit with a slight increase in computational cost. The performance of COM-W, E-COM-W, and the traditional least-squares (LS) solutions is compared through extensive simulation tests.
