A Tunable Active Clamping Source Based High Frequency Single-Switch Resonant Gate Driving Circuit with Duty Cycle and Frequency Modulation Capability

Resonant Gate Driver (RGD) is an effective method to save gate driver loss at high frequency. Most RGDs require at least two transistors to constitute the bridge structure, which suffers from difficult dead time control at tens of MHz. The single-switch RGDs are easy to implement but can only generate fixed duty cycle waveforms and operate at the narrow band. This paper proposed a single-switch RGD with a wide operation bandwidth, and the duty cycle of output driving voltage can be modulated by easily controlling the tunable active clamping source instead of difficult nanosecond signal control. The experimental results are given to verify the proposed RGD at 12MHz-15MHz with the 1kW Class-E power amplifier
