A Multi-scent Olfactory Display for Smell Identification Testing

Here, we report on the design and development of an olfactory display device for undertaking a ‘smell identification test”’. It uses 12 scent-releasing units, each containing a different scent. A specially developed cap has been designed so that when the unit is off, the blower seals the vial to stop any unwanted leakage. This is the first olfactory display developed to use this approach. A specially designed driving circuit allows this unit to communicate with users via a website and the olfaction test could be carried out remotely without supervision.
