Acoustic Trapping Cylindrical Resonators with Radial Holograms

Acoustic resonators in acoustofluidic chips use ultrasonic waves and fluid microflows to manipulate cells and micro/nanoparticles, finding applications in cell micro-culture and diagnostics. However, manufacturing resonators with hard materials like glass and silicon is costly. This study proposes an acoustofluidic chip made of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) with a radial hologram structure to optimize acoustic energy density, which is related to the ultrasonic forces produced on immersed particles in the resonator. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed chip is compatible with hard ma-terial devices, achieving an energy density of
