Control of the Acoustic Field of a Pressurized Water Reactor

Improving the safety and operational efficiency of nuclear power plants (NPPs) remains a pressing issue. This paper presents comprehensive digital acoustical models (DAMs) for pressurizer system (PS) of the VVER nuclear reactors. It is shown that the ASW of PS DAMPS field contains ASW created by the reactor, steam generators (SG) and main circulation pumps (MCP), which are external vibration-inducing forces that have a powerful effect on the entire primary circuit. Vibration sensors are installed on the reactor vessel, SG, MCP, pipelines. High-quality processing of pressure pulsation sensors’ signals (PPS) installed in the hot and cold legs of the primary circuit provides high correlation with vibrations at ASW frequencies. The IT applied for creating DAMPS uses an inter-disciplinary methodology. It is shown that DAMPS is a system of self-oscillation that generates ASWs that are adequate to the acoustic field of multiple synchronously working Helmholtz resonators, providing control for the primary circuit acoustic field by damping ASW that cause an unacceptable level of equipment vibration. DAMPS has been introduced into the educational process. The creation of IT solutions for engineering education based on domestic solutions is critically important, as it ensures not only import substitution, but also advances in the creation of advanced technologies.
